The above quote comes straight from Mike Canaan. He kept repeating that same phrase over and over again while clapping and jumping up and down excitedly after the six or so firemen that came upstairs left room 1008.
Oh, wait, you want to know why there were firemen in the dorms, don't you? Well, that's quite an amusing story.
Brigid and I were making egg rolls in her room. We'd invited a lot of people, and were really excited. That might partially explain why we didn't notice the oil for deep frying getting too hot a little too fast. It also might explain how we missed the smoke at first.
Anyway, we noticed at some point and took it off the heat, but it was too late. We'd accidentally set the fire alarm off in the hall. That's what we get for cooking with the door open, isn't it? However, we heard no alarm going off. We had no idea what had happened until someone told us... and about four fire trucks stopped outside of Gunsaulus Hall with sirens blaring.
Mike, who was in the room, watched out the window as the firemen jumped out of their vehicles and came into the building... pike and axes (or possibly hatchets... I couldn't really tell) in hand. That's when he started grinning like a little kid on Christmas.
So they came up to the tenth floor, walked right in, and asked what we'd set on fire. After assuring them that nothing was burned and all was well, Brigid then tried to feed them. They politely refused, mostly because nothing had actually been fried yet, and then left as abruptly as they'd come.
I found the whole incident highly amusing, as this isn't the first time a cooking incident has brought firefighters to the dorms. There was no harm done, no one was in any trouble, and we got on with our cooking and proceeded to feed everyone in sight. Much fun was had.
And for the next hour, at least, Mike would jump up and down and say excitedly, "They brought the pike and the axes!"
He's still saying it. It's been three days...
Not amused... >.<
I'd be slightly mollified if the firemen had at least eaten a few egg rolls. Really, that would have made it all better.
