Shimer attracts all sorts. Really! We even have students who were high-school cheerleaders, so you can cross out that stereotype.
But, unlike most schools, especially larger ones, you just can't stick to your clique. A Shimer class forces you to intellectually engage with, and respect, people you wouldn't have even noticed in high school or at larger colleges. We don't just learn from the text, we learn from each other's perspectives. It's a unique intellectual camaraderie.
Sure, sometimes it doesn't translate outside the classroom, but sometimes it leads to unexpected and wonderful friendships.

A Nat Sci 3 class circa 1985, this picture predates the octagonal tables.
